I received a RowZone workout flier in the mail, and decided to try it out. The day there I got instruction , and decided to try the 2000 meter challenge!!

I thought I was going to die! I stuck with it from April thru July. I lost nearly 30 lbs, my BMI went from in the 30′s to the 20′s, my fat reduced by 4.9%, and I looked and felt amazing!

I am currently in Canada on contract, and where I work they have a C2 rower and I am on it daily…I do not have the handsome men and women trainers there by my side, but the RowZone got me started and now I am forever indebted to the great instruction I received..

I recommend RowZone to anyone who does not like working out..45 minutes a day, you sweat like crazy, you have your personal trainer there, and you are a happy family of people that are excited and enjoy a challenging workout! Miss you guys so much…Dee

At a doctor’s appt in March 2010, I learned that my cholesterol was too high, and I had osteoporosis. Then he told me I needed to lose weight. I was already on meds for bone density and I didn’t want to add any add’l meds, so I knew the best approach was to watch what I was eating and to exercise regularly. That was easier said than done–I’d been going to the gym, but not regularly and not with any results. I needed to find something that would challenge me, fit into my busy schedule (I work full time and have two teenage boys at home) andthat I would enjoy enough to make it part of my life. At that time I was suffering from pretty bad heel pain, so I needed to find a way t work out that was low or no impact. In April, I rec’d a flier in the mail announcing the grand opening of RowZone. At the beginning of May, I went to my free class and I LOVED it! The workout was tough, but did not aggravate my heel pain! I joined RowZone that day!

At first, I came to class 2 days a week-I needed the other days to recover! The trainers are fabulous and the environment at RowZone is very positive and supportive. It was a few months before I lost any weight, but I didn’t get discouraged because I was focusing on becoming healthier. I could tell that I was getting stronger with each workout. Pretty soon, I was coming 3 days a week. After about 6 months, I went to the doctor and had lost 8 pounds and my cholesterol had dropped by 50 points! Within a few more months, I had lost another 8 pounds and was feeling great!

It’s now been over 18 months and I’m still enjoying my workouts at RowZone. I’ve lost a total of 18 pounds. My cholesterol is great, my bone density has improved and I’m off medication!! I average 4 workouts a week-usually 3 classes and a 30 minute free row. The great thing about working out at RowZone is that the trainers keep the workouts fresh and no matter how many classes you’ve been to, the next class is still as challenging! Also, in only 45 minutes, you get a complete workout!

In a week, I will be 55 and I can honestly say that I’m in the best shape of my life! Janet

The first time I worked out at RowZone I left feeling truly exhausted, in a good way. I thought I was in okay shape, after all, I’d been running, walking, and biking 3 times a week, and lifting weights at home. I just had some extra fat layers I needed to lose. As I sat down to a sushi dinner afterward, my abdominal muscles were actually cramping!! Brian had put us through the paces with our cores that evening and I was feeling it! I had never had a charlie horse in my abs before!! It took me about 5 days to recover from that workout before I could come back because I literally couldn’t even sit up in bed. I had to roll out. The next workout really challenged my legs, but only took about 3 days before I felt like I could go back for another round. After the third class, I was really feeling changes in my body, especially my core. My biggest challenge was figuring out how to work the times of the classes into my schedule. My goal was to get there 3 times a week. After those first 5 classes, I knew I was feeling and seeing changes, and so was my husband. I bought a pack of 10 classes because I still hadn’t figured my schedule out and wasn’t sure I could manage more than 2-3 times a week. At the end of those 10, I had prioritized my workouts and was managing to get there at 4-5 times a week. As I continued to see results, I talked to other members that I knew were fit to find out how often they came. I knew I needed to just go for it and sign up for the unlimited sessions and make it work.

In the 9 months I have been working out at RowZone, I have lost close to 40 pounds and 40 inches, but have gained a ton of lean muscle in the process. Most of the weight came off in the first 6 months, but the inches continue to slowly change. My body has been literally recomposed and still is modifying itself. Anyone that knew me before sees it. I was a size 12 and now wear a 6. I am more fit than I’ve ever been in my life! Not just thin, but FIT. I had nagging old injuries due to running that now don’t seem to be there. I am balanced and strong. Working out in the manner designed by the trainers at RowZone keeps me challenged constantly. I would never challenge myself in this way on my own, and the variety in each workout keeps my body on it’s toes, and keeps me interested in continuing to show!! Carie

About a year and 3 months ago I made the best decision of my life! I joined RowZone and started training with the best group of trainers. I had been struggling with my weight since graduating college and then after having children. Within 4 months of training a couple of times per week and doing cardio the rest, I had slimmed down to a size I had not been in a decade!!! Now, after every workout I feel GREAT the rest of the day. I have been able to get back to playing tennis, for I feel I have the conditioning and stamina to play a whole match!

Thank you RowZone for enhancing my life! I truly appreciate the atmosphere you have created. I have met really nice people whom I enjoy working out with. It’s like an extended family, where there is much love, support, and caring. You have made a true rowing fan out of me. Keep up the great work! Raquel

“If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.” -Frank A. Clark

It is important to understand that there are going to be obstacles on the road to getting in shape. Understand that you are not alone.

You CAN do it!

Obstacle: Affordability

Heard:
“Are you crazy, I can’t afford a gym membership!”

“Eating healthy and working out is expensive.”

Solution:

Ok, so you think you can’t afford to live healthy. Wrong!

A healthy lifestyle can be broken down into two parts: diet and exercise. Keep the diet simple, eat between 3-5 meals per day, drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water (if you weigh in at 140 pounds, target 70 ounces of water), eliminate snacks, and don’t within an hour of your bedtime.

Try to make each meal equal in size, and replace white flour with whole wheat wherever you can.

The American Dietetic Association provides excellent resources for making healthy diet choices. For more information, check their website here.

No matter who I talk to, I can usually come up with exercise options to fit their budget. I recommend checking out the Mayo Clinic’s recommendations in this article, Fitness for less: 4 low-cost ways to shape up.

Obstacle: Injuries (My neck and my back)

Heard:

“I would exercise but I have a bad back.”

“Last time I worked out, I couldn’t move for TWO weeks!”

Solution:

First off, if you do have an injury or some other medical condition that puts you at risk, it’s a good idea to check with your family doctor for recommendations on the best way to break into your new fitness program. Check with your doctor if you fall into one of the following groups:

You’ve been diagnosed with heart problems, high blood pressure or other medical conditions

You’ve been sedentary for over a year

If you’re over 65 and don’t currently exercise

You’re pregnant

You have diabetes

You ever experience chest pains, dizziness or fainting spells

You’re recovering from an injury or illness

You have a diagnosed medical condition or illness

For many people, injuries can actually stem from a lack of activity, poor flexibility, or an unbalanced workout program. While we don’t want to readily admit it, we are all getting older. Becoming active and getting in better shape can actually help.

Make sure that your workout program includes a balance of resistance training, flexibility training, and cardiovascular training. Only use about 60% of your energy for the first month, and gradually get your body into shape pain free! If you don’t know what to do, it might be a good idea to hire a professional to help you come up with a program.

Obstacle: You hate to exercise

Heard:

“I HATE going to the gym.”

“I wish I could just take a pill to get me in shape.”

Solution:

This is me playing good cop-bad cop. Ready? Here I go. The good cop says, “You just haven’t found the right workout yet. Look around and find something that interests you. If you don’t like running, then don’t run! Get it? Research different workout programs and see which one you like the best.”

The bad cop says, “You have to do things in this life that you might not want to do. Exercising is not an option but an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Ok, so you have a few hours a week in which you aren’t indulging yourself. Deal with it (and then pay your taxes).”

For the record, the good cop and the bad cop are both right on this obstacle!

Obstacle: Time

Heard:

“I just don’t have the time.”

“Between work and family life, I just can’t make it to the gym.”

Solution:

First of all, I understand this obstacle 100%, but this is a very personal decision that requires unparalleled commitment. Making the time for fitness is essential to the success of your program. Period.

Remember that crush that you had in the seventh grade? You would have done anything in your power to get a smile, or find out if he liked you. If he asked you to go on a three day walk in the desert with you would have done it. Well all we are asking for about 10% of that dedication or two hours and fifteen minutes per week. That’s only going to the gym three times for 45 minutes each time. If you are in shape you will have more energy and also sleep better. This will cause you to improve your quality of life and get more out of your day. Make time for yourself.

Obstacle: Emotionally Not Ready

Heard:

“I really don’t want to workout. It’s not my thing.”

“I always feel so out of place when I go to the gym.”

This is the biggest issue that nobody wants to talk about, but trust me this is number one.

We live in a society where the beautiful are revered and the imperfect are ostracized. This causes people to be incredibly embarrassed by their bodies. For most people it is a very difficult decision to get in shape, then they have to deal with going into a scary, new environment where they feel like they are the center of attention.

Rest assured, the first day of getting in shape will be the hardest one, then every day after that will become easier. You must take yourself out of your comfort zone to make the change. That being said, make sure that you find an environment that feels the most comfortable to you. Starting the journey is often the biggest step to your success.
